The Stories You Tell Yourself Run the Show.
It's Time to Edit the Script.

Decades of research stand behind CBT and DBT — and that research keeps confirming what therapists who use them already know: these approaches deliver. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy targets the inner narration that fuels anxiety, low mood, and self-defeating habits. Dialectical Behavior Therapy adds something CBT alone doesn't quite cover: a learnable skill set for surviving emotional storms, holding your ground in conflict, and treating yourself with something other than contempt.

From our Berkeley/Highlands office on W 48th Avenue, our Denver clinicians use both frameworks — sometimes separately, often together — to give you a real toolkit. Insight is great. Skills you can use at 2 a.m. on a Tuesday are better.

Where CBT & DBT Make a Difference

The reach of these two approaches is wide. Below are some of the most frequent reasons clients seek out our Denver therapists for skills-based work.

🌀

Anxious Thinking & Worry Loops

Anxiety thrives on patterns: predicting the worst, reading minds, treating uncertainty as danger. CBT names these distortions and gives you concrete ways to interrupt them — so the loop doesn't run unchecked.

🌫️

Depression & Low Motivation

Depression convinces you that nothing helps and nothing matters. CBT challenges that voice; behavioral activation rebuilds momentum by re-engaging you with the small, meaningful actions that depression talked you out of.

🔥

Big Emotions & Reactivity

If your feelings tend to arrive at full volume and stick around longer than you'd like, you're not "too much" — you may simply benefit from DBT, which was designed exactly for this and remains the most effective approach available.

🧨

Self-Harm & Suicidal Thinking

DBT has more research support for reducing self-harm and suicidal behavior than any other modality. The crisis survival and distress tolerance skills give you something to do — instead of something to do to yourself — when pain peaks.

👥

Conflict, Boundaries & Connection

The interpersonal effectiveness module of DBT teaches you to ask clearly, refuse without guilt, and protect the relationship while still protecting yourself. These aren't abstract ideas — they're scripts you can actually use.

🔁

OCD & Unwanted Thoughts

Standard talk therapy can actually make OCD worse. Exposure and Response Prevention — a specialized form of CBT — is the gold-standard treatment, helping you face what feels dangerous and discover that compulsions aren't the answer.

CBT vs. DBT — How They Differ

Both rest on solid evidence, and both reliably help. The differences come down to focus and method — and which one (or which blend) is right depends on what you're working with. Here's how our Denver team thinks about each.

CBT

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy — Rewriting the Internal Narrator

The premise of CBT is straightforward: thoughts, feelings, and behaviors form a feedback loop, and changing one shifts the others. Sessions are focused and structured, with measurable goals and between-session practice. You'll leave with techniques you can apply on your commute, at your desk, or before a hard conversation — not just insight.

DBT

Dialectical Behavior Therapy — A Curriculum for Emotional Living

Marsha Linehan built DBT for clients whose emotional intensity made traditional CBT feel like trying to do calculus during a fire alarm. It keeps the cognitive framework but layers in four learnable skill modules — practical, sequential, and proven across decades of research with some of the most challenging populations in mental health.

01

Mindfulness — The Foundation

Every other DBT skill assumes you can notice what's happening inside you without immediately reacting to it. Mindfulness builds that capacity — not as a meditation hobby, but as a working tool for catching yourself before the spiral.

02

Distress Tolerance — Surviving the Crisis

Some moments can't be fixed in the moment; they have to be ridden out. Distress tolerance gives you concrete techniques — TIPP, radical acceptance, self-soothe — for getting through without making the situation worse or hurting yourself in the process.

03

Emotion Regulation — Lower the Volume

This module teaches you to identify what you're actually feeling, reduce your overall emotional vulnerability through sleep, food, and movement, and intervene before an emotion builds momentum you can't stop. Less reaction, more response.

04

Interpersonal Effectiveness — Asking, Refusing, Holding the Line

DEAR MAN, GIVE, FAST — DBT's acronyms exist because the skills are concrete enough to memorize and use. You'll learn how to make a request without backing down, decline without apologizing for existing, and keep your self-respect intact through conflict.

Walk Out With Skills That Outlast Therapy.

Our Denver CBT and DBT clinicians focus on building you a portable toolkit — strategies that keep working long after our last session together. In person at our Berkeley/Highlands office, or via Telehealth across Colorado.

AnxietyTraumaEMDRCouplesGrief

Carly founded New Vision in 2019 with a belief that processing unresolved trauma frees us to become our truest selves. She uses Gottman Method for couples and is pursuing advanced EMDR certification. Licensed in Colorado and Texas.

Taking the first step to consider therapy can be exciting, nerve-wracking, and scary all at the same time. I like to establish a warm, genuine connection with my clients in order to cultivate a sense of trust and safety when we meet. I assist clients in establishing goals and milestones they would like to meet in life and create a plan to help them get there.

I believe that unresolved trauma and/or grief is often the reason we may feel hindered or stuck in life, and that by processing past hurts, losses, and traumas, we are more free to be the best versions of ourselves; our true selves. I believe through a lens of self-compassion and acceptance, we can begin to be more kind to ourselves and heal our critical inner voice. Finally, getting clear about our values will help guide our actions, which in turn, helps us to create a purposeful life based on what we believe to be meaningful — not necessarily what the world, society, or family tries to tell us "should be" important.

In my work with couples I utilize the Gottman Method. The first session we meet together to get an idea of what needs to be improved upon, what issues bring you to couples therapy, and a general sense of how the interactions and communication are in the relationship. In the second session, we split our time with each partner for individual sessions and I continue my assessment on the pillars that research shows are most important to lasting relationships. In the third session, I share a detailed report assessing both your strengths and areas of growth as a couple so that we have a roadmap of goals to work towards in a tangible, productive way.

I have a professional background working in K–12 education, higher education, and counseling in the non-profit sector before I opened New Vision Counseling in 2019. I have pursued my passion for couples therapy and helping people process through trauma by receiving additional trainings in DBT, Gottman Method, trauma-informed care, and EMDR. I am currently working on additional training and consultation to become an advanced certified EMDR therapist. In my free time, I enjoy exploring nature with my two little dachshunds and discovering new coffee shops and bakeries around Denver.

Born in Kyoto, Hiroko is bilingual in Japanese and English. She blends somatic work, parts work, and mindfulness with a warm relational style — and believes humor is vital to real healing.

I'm passionate about working with individuals and couples using trauma-informed care and relationship-focused therapy. I enjoy using effective and creative tools by integrating somatic modality, parts work, and mindfulness. Just as seeds know how to sprout above the ground and leaves turn toward the sun without being taught, I believe we, too, hold that same inherent capacity to grow.

The difference is, with humans, that capacity can be hindered by physical, emotional, and psychological challenges. In my clinical and personal observation, our seeds have a much better chance of sprouting and growing when we feel truly seen and heard.

I was born and raised in Kyoto, Japan, and am bilingual in Japanese and English. I enjoy working with a diverse population. In area hospitals, I've worked with people at the end of life and find working with grief profoundly meaningful. Working closely with healthcare providers inspired my commitment to helping people manage burnout. It was my own history of trauma and journey to healing that led me to this profession.

While therapy can seem intense, I believe humor and playfulness are vital to the healing process. It's deeply rewarding to know that cultivating self-compassion and skills for my own growth can now support yours.

CouplesRelationshipsAnxietyLife Transitions

With nearly a decade working with individuals and couples, Joseph helps clients heal hurt and reclaim connection. Direct, warm, and occasionally truth-bomb honest. In-person Tuesdays in Denver.

I have been working with individuals and couples since 2015, and I can help you move through and heal the hurt so you can get back to having a life of love and intimacy. It's really easy to fall into the trap of thinking that we are supposed to go it alone — and having other people walking alongside us can feel vulnerable.

Life is full of challenges; everything from parenting, to work stress, to finding the balance between work, life, and play. Things don't always need to be taken overly seriously, and sometimes the best treatment is finding something to laugh about.

Sometimes when our relationships break down, what we need is to heal on our own. Maybe you feel lonely and disconnected in your relationship, or maybe you struggle to see your own inner worth. Either way, asking for help can be hard. I'm here to be a support, a guide, and occasionally someone to drop a truth bomb or two on you.

I know what it's like to come back from a failed relationship. I can help you heal your relationship or I can help you recover from a broken one. Reach out and I will gladly walk with you and help your pain find its place.

Matthew works through a Brain/Body/Mind lens using EMDR, certified Brainspotting, and Polyvagal Theory. A committed LGBTQ+ ally dedicated to creating a safe space for genuine transformation.

Welcome to the new path you have chosen on your mental health journey. I would be honored to be a guide and advocate as you start on this road less traveled.

Anxiety, depression, and trauma, if left unexamined and unprocessed, can take on lives of their own and negatively affect our ability to live more fulfilling lives. I like to support clients through the lens of their Brain/Body/Mind. I find that when we allow ourselves to discover our authentic selves through the interaction of the three, it can be a transformative and liberating experience.

It is ever important to be an ally and advocate for my clients. To me, this means creating a safe, caring, and accepting space to develop a strong, trusting therapeutic relationship. I use several modalities to guide and support my clients, including Certified Brainspotting, EMDR, Neurophysiological Psychoeducation, Polyvagal Theory, Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy, and Motivational Interviewing.

I am trauma-informed and a strong advocate for LGBTQ+ folks. I am excited to get started and help you heal, grow, transform, and thrive as you travel down this new, exciting life path. Welcome!

AnxietyDepressionTraumaLGBTQIA+Shame & Guilt

Sydney believes asking for help is strength, not weakness. Person-centered and strength-based, she helps clients process shame and build self-trust — no judgment, just genuine support.

Finding the right fit for your mental health journey can be daunting. Therapy is vulnerable and powerful, and finding a person to support you in this is important. I firmly believe being a therapist is not about doing something for the client, but being someone for the client. I am here to be that someone for my clients.

There is a misconception in our world that asking for help is weakness, when in fact it's strength. I'll be here for you, with no judgement. My therapeutic style is authentic, warm, empathetic, open-minded, and person-centered. I believe each client is the expert of their own life, and I am here to assist along the way. I utilize a strength-based approach that helps my clients learn how to process shame and live their lives with more kindness towards themselves.

I take my approach from different modalities including DBT, TF-CBT, Person-Centered, Narrative, Systems-based, and Attachment Theory. I help my clients in discovering who they are, and that they are a gift to this world. You are worthy just by being you, and you are more than enough.

I grew up in New Jersey before moving to Colorado where I pursued my Master's in Counseling Psychology, and I have loved living in this beautiful state ever since! Outside of work I love reading, cooking, martial arts, walking, listening to podcasts, and spending time with family and friends.

I draw from a blend of research-backed methods and intuitive insight to help you rewrite old narratives, heal emotional wounds, and reconnect with your inner wisdom.

Tracy draws from CBT, Motivational Interviewing, and Solution-Focused therapy to help clients build healthier habits and self-awareness. Available online and in-person in Lakewood.

I can understand how hard it is to find a therapist that can relate and really understand. I have been there, and this is what led me to pursue a career as a Mental Health Therapist. After spending years in HR and in the education system I saw a need and desire to reach people on a deeper level and help them with areas of everyday struggles without the stigma of shame or judgment.

I pursued my calling and graduated from Colorado Christian University with a Master of Arts in Counseling. By having worked in a school setting I can understand the struggles, pressure, and stress that youths are facing. In addition, I have also worked with adults with substance abuse and incarcerated individuals. With my vast experience working with many different ages and populations I am able to identify a person's needs and work with them in the change process by offering encouragement without judgment.

My approach to therapy is somewhat different. Yes, we do talk about feelings and emotions — however, I work with my clients through the change process and developing a better self. I start by developing a safe, comfortable environment and really get to know who my clients are. My clients would say that I challenge and empower them to make healthier emotional, spiritual, cognitive, and behavioral choices.

I am a mother of two active teenagers, so most weekends you will find me being the team mom at their events. I enjoy family time by hiking, cycling, paddle boarding, movies, and board games. My friends say I am a kid at heart and can see the good in every situation. My motto: "Live for Today."
