Using Your UHC or UMR Plan Here
A quick look at how coverage typically works
- Visits filed as routine outpatient mental health care
- Behavioral health is usually managed by Optum for both UHC and UMR
- Most plans set a fixed copay or coinsurance per visit
- Video sessions covered on most plans
Quality Therapy, Made Simpler by Your UnitedHealthcare or UMR Benefit
Starting therapy often stalls on the logistics — is it covered, what will it cost, and who's actually available. Our clinicians at New Vision Therapy Center span a wide range of specialties, so whatever brought you here, there's likely a strong fit on our team.
Because our Menchaca Road office is in-network with UnitedHealthcare and UMR, most Austin members can use their behavioral health benefit here at the in-network rate. Meet with your therapist in person, or over secure video from anywhere in Texas.
UnitedHealthcare & UMR Plan Types We Work With
We work with UnitedHealthcare's commercial and marketplace plans, plus employer plans administered by UMR. Not sure which one you have? Send us your member ID and we'll look it up before you commit to anything.
UHC Choice Plus
One of the most widely offered employer plans in Austin. No referral is needed for mental health visits, and your cost is typically a set copay or coinsurance per session.
UMR Plans
UMR is UnitedHealthcare's administrator for self-funded employer plans. Your employer designs the benefits, so we verify your specific plan's mental health coverage before you book.
UHC Options PPO
Traditional preferred-provider coverage that lets you book directly with any in-network therapist, including our team, without a gatekeeper.
UHC Navigate & Choice
Plans built around a primary care provider. Some require a PCP referral for specialist care — we confirm whether yours does before scheduling.
High-Deductible Plans
UHC and UMR plans paired with an HSA. You'll pay toward your deductible first, then coinsurance applies — and your HSA funds can cover sessions.
UHC Individual & Family
Coverage purchased through the ACA exchange. Mental health parity rules require these plans to cover therapy on par with other medical care.

UnitedHealthcare, UMR & Austin Therapy, Explained
What's the difference between UnitedHealthcare and UMR?
UMR is a UnitedHealthcare company that administers self-funded employer health plans. Your employer pays the claims and sets the benefits, while UMR handles the processing — often using UnitedHealthcare's provider network. Because each UMR plan is designed by the employer, coverage can vary more than on a standard UHC plan, which is why we verify it individually.
Who manages mental health benefits for UHC and UMR plans?
For most UnitedHealthcare and UMR plans, behavioral health benefits are managed by Optum, a sister company within UnitedHealth Group. You may see an Optum phone number on the back of your card for mental health. That's normal — we check this when we verify your benefits so nothing slips through.
Is New Vision Therapy Center actually in-network?
Yes — we're credentialed and in-network with UnitedHealthcare and UMR at our South Austin location on Menchaca Road. That's what keeps your cost at the lower in-network rate rather than an out-of-network reimbursement.
What will I pay per session?
It depends on your plan. Many members pay a flat copay once any deductible is met, while high-deductible and HSA plans typically mean paying the contracted rate until the deductible is reached, then coinsurance. We'll walk you through the exact numbers during your free coverage check.
Do I need a referral or prior authorization?
Most Choice Plus, PPO, and UMR plans don't require a referral for routine outpatient therapy, and prior authorization is rarely needed. Some Navigate and other PCP-based plans do require a referral — we'll flag it before your first appointment if it applies.
What kinds of concerns can your Austin therapists help with?
Our clinicians cover anxiety, depression, trauma and EMDR, CBT and DBT, couples and marriage counseling, career stress, life transitions, grief, LGBTQIA+ affirming care, and medication management support. Tell us what's going on and we'll match you with the right fit.
Can I do therapy over video instead of coming in?
Yes. We offer sessions on a secure telehealth platform for clients anywhere in Texas, and most UnitedHealthcare and UMR plans cover video visits the same way as in-office sessions. We'll confirm telehealth coverage when we check your benefits.
Let's Confirm Your UHC or UMR Coverage
Send us your UnitedHealthcare or UMR member ID and we'll typically have your coverage details back within a business day — no commitment, no surprise charges.
